Once upon a time.....
There was a period of time after the Internet and the Web had come into existence, when everything was new, when things did look good, actually, for all those who found their way into that magic realm. When all there felt free making up homesteads of their own, telling others about themselves, about things they loved, about their passions, about their virtual or real homes, about their hometowns or home countries, about pets and family, about their hobbies. There was webspace for free,
offered by a couple of companies like Geocities, Tripod and
more. But there is no such thing as a free
lunch. So the situation was not going to last. The
so-called social networks made access much
easier to the internet for the price of creating
a basical uniform look. And the situation became
worse, after smartphones were held by everybody.
And everybody shared some flat jokes, just to
let others know they have arrived at last and
have come to stay. There are many folks nowadays who don't even know what a URL is. Even if an address is very simple, they're accustomed to typing the name into Google thus creating a dangerous dependancy on big companies, on big money enlarging their monopoly. |
